Who Needs Fostering?
Weaned Kittens
Fostering for weaned kittens is a rewarding experience! These kitties are very active and begin to show off their little personalities. Weaned kittens usually only need a foster home for a few weeks, so meal time should be all the time. During this time, socialization is very important so these kittens begin to associate humans with love and cuddles. These little ones need to hit 2 pounds before they can come back to the shelter for their spay/neuter surgery, so helping them reach that goal is what’s most important.
Mom and Babies
It’s incredibly rewarding to foster a mother cat and her kittens. Seeing how she instinctively knows just what to do is truly amazing. However, it’s still important to keep an eye on all the kittens, even though it looks like mom has it handled. She’ll be in charge of feeding and cleaning, but sometimes she can get lazy and that’s when you’ll need to step in. You should also begin handling and socializing these kittens. Fostering for mom and babies can last up to 10 weeks.
Bottle Babies
If you are willing to foster young kittens, you’ll have a chance to experience the joys of watching them grow up. Bottle babies need round-the-clock care, but it’s rewarding when you see them start to open their eyes and explore their environment.
